    Notes for the Media

The following are point form notes for the media concerning the festival and key points that may help in covering the celebrations:

One of the main reasons for the media to cover an event of this nature  is that it truly represents and respects the diversity and beauty of other cultures; and how the City of New York embraces such events. An event like this, though geared for everyone no matter what sex, age, race, religion etc., really strikes home with the South Asian community as the festival originates in India. With an enormous South Asian community in the New York Metro Area, this is a great way for the media to reach out and recognize their culture.

With the previous point in mind, it should be noted, however, that the festival is meant for anyone and everyone; there are no restrictions with regards to attending and/or taking part in the festival! One of the most beautiful things about the festival is that it opens its arms to everyone to join in the festivities! A warm invitation goes out to both the public and the media to come to the festival and simply have a great time!

All media are welcome to both the parade and the festivities at Washington Square Park The parade exhibits the colorful and absorbing nature of the festival, while the activities at the park provide stimulation for the mind, body, and soul! Events will include a FREE sumptuous vegetarian feast, traditional dance performances, a dramatic rendition of the Bhagavata Purana, one of India's most beloved scriptures, Vedic arts, fascinating exhibits, discussions on Vedic philosophy with eminent leaders of the Hare Krishna movement, presentations on the Bhagavad Gita, delicious snack booths, specialty boutiques and spiritual and uplifting music presented by Hare Krishna youth!
